Of course it's not a reality but it is important for people to know the truth. Not just drug company statistics. Being that the vaccine is targeted toward a younger crowd they must also know the consequences. We can't make a vaccine for everything including poor choices. Let's educate and vaccinate.

G'day

Some great comments.
Francesca I am aware of the commens made by the CDC. Unfortunately whilst it is a nice ideal it is not reality.
With a population that may not have the same number of PAP smears done and has a much higher incidence of STIs the HPV vaccine is a major step forward in reducing cancers, in a population with a much higher cancer risk.

To the Indigenous People's Advocate. The Australian Institute devotes a lot of research to indigenous issues. I thought it would have been simple to include some indigenous statistics. More than the comment I quoted anyway as one bit of publicity stated that had some statisitics pertaining to indigenous people and cancers.

Thanks for the comments

Re: Indigenous People's Advocate:

Here in the States they hesitantly mention sufferings of the Native Americans. That's because they have been screwed so bad. Alcohol and drug usage is very high too. They have been banished to the highest of "nose bleed" reservations after land below and surrounding was illegally sold and rightfully theirs.. Forced to make do they sell tax free tobacco and set up casinos. Unfortunately the entertainment industry and tobacco sales benefit mostly"gangsters" running them. Very little if any gets in the hands of needy people. Business as usual.

Thanks for mentioning the Native Americans.

That is odd why there is little mention of cancer rates among indigenous Australians. In the US, some cancer rates are much higher among Native Americans then other groups, often having to do with location such as among the Navajo and their proximity to several uranium mines.

Great article. Glad to see anti-smoking campaign and vaccination efforts. Important to emphasize that HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is one of the most common rampant sexually transmitted diseases. It is asymptomatic, which makes it easy to go undetected and spread. Important that along with this vaccine, pre-teen, teenagers and young women be informed about HPV transmission. That barrier protection does not either offer full protection. At present time the The Center for Disease Control recommends limiting sexual partners to those who are long term, monogamous, and uninfected, which also cuts down on the risk of infection. Gardasil also not a defense against so many other sexually transmitted diseases which also may lead to cancers. When viewing a Pharmaceutical website most of the public will not understand this is a business. It is in the companies interest to advertise sales. Education is not what they are aiming for.
