In April of 2008 I was invited to join a Nanotech & Water group on Facebook by a contact in Italy. I opened up a discussion regarding pharmaceuticals being disposed via waterways. No real replies :( http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/wall.php?id=11841827865 Thanks so much Robbo for bringing up these important issues.

G'day
I think excreted antibiotics can be a problem, but mainly in the veterinary field. I see the FDA just recently had a change of heart and will now allow cephalosporins into some animal feed stocks.

On this topic, I wonder about those pharmaceuticals which are excreted unchanged (e.g. many of the antibiotics). Could they be contributing to the traces of drugs found in the water supply?

I'm sure I read somewhere that in the early '40s, when penicillin was new and expensive, they collected the patients' urine and purified the penicillin back out of it for reuse.
