Every remote community has a “Mitre 13″.
Most have more than one.
As each car stops working it becomes spare parts with people keeping in their minds where broken down vehicles are and coming quite a distance to negotiate with the owner for the radiator off the troopie or the rear diff off the Commodore.
Sometimes these broken down cars are in the community but sooner or later they all make it out to Mitre 13 where every useful part is stripped off them.
I’ve made good use of it in Oodnadatta using some Holden Kingswood springs to rebuild a trailer spring set which lasted me for a couple of thousand kilometres until I wandered back into civilisation
