A fine way to start the New year by looking at the past.
Last year was the first full year of blogging. I have been a bit erratic but somehow managed to produce 249 posts of varying quality. Here are the most read in 2009.
My posts on the effects of Fly-In-Fly-Out workers have on remote communities are popular with a post on the same theme in the top 10 in 2008. This year I looked at the effects of these workers and what would be the effect if local indigenous people were trained and employed instead.
This post is a consistent performer coming in at number 5 in 2008.
For a small much maligned western NSW community it sure attracts a lot of attention with a post on the community and a post on some aboriginal men and their music both in the Top 10.
. The smoking rate in Australia is about 17%. And 50% in indigenous Australians. This post looked at Nicotine replacement patches being listed on the PBS for Indigenous Australians.
During the year a drug interaction made the news. Proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole can inhibit the metabolism of clopidogrel into its active form. It must have made a few cardiac patients very nervous as this RGH E-Bulletin was very popular..
In Australia hormonal treatments for menopause were removed from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme in Australia. It must have caused some consternation in a certain population group as this RGH E-Bulletin was hit pretty heavily.
A tragic event was the death of Mr Ward in a prisoner transport vehicle where he was “cooked” during transport in mid summer without air-conditioning or water. I kept a page and various posts with news links on his death and the aftermath.
Another sad affair led to this post becoming the second most read in 2009. The first death from swine flu in Australia was a resident of Kiwirrkurra. Having this post as a reference in Wikipedia also helped a bit.
This was by far the most popular post. It really took off after Sydney, Brisbane and other parts of the east coast of Australia received a little bit of outback dust and everyone started searching for pictures.
