Love a Good Truck

Another in the occasional series.

Through Spring we had cattle road trains from Western Australia pound over thousands of dirt roads through and into Western Australia loaded with cattle and return empty. Most times they take the roads around the communities. Sometimes they miss and end up in the community dropping bulldust everywhere which blows over the community.

Here’s one that stopped to ask me the way out. It started going past me

In my travels through rural and remote Australia I see quite a few big trucks. A scan of my photos shows I take few pictures of them. Welcome to the start of an occasional series.

These ore dump trucks were being transported westward on the Kalgoorlie Laverton Road. First comes the transport escort with a big sign and amber flashing lights. With the trucks still out of sight you call on the UHF radio and ask the size.

SEVEN metres wide.

You start slowing down and the next escort vehicle is the police escort four wheel drive. Despite them hearing your conversation on the radio and you slowing down and slowly moving off the road they drive directly at you headlights and red and blues flashing.

And then the trucks arrive. (click on the images for a much larger view)

Wreck Of The Week

by Robbo on December 31, 2009

in Wreck Of The Week

Welcome to a new, hopefully weekly post. I’ll show you the remains after our bush mechanics have finished with a vehicle or perhaps wrecked whitefella vehicles on holidays. I even have some pics of an old Jag on a disused hunting track.

Let’s start with a bang.

A squillion dollar piece of exploration equipment burns down on a major road and it would make the news. Not out here. Earlier this year on one of only a few East West crossings connecting Western Australia with the rest of the country this little beauty burnt to the ground.

It proved one thing. Three fire extinguishers on the truck just don’t make a difference. I also like the touch of the little safety triangles.
